Since being founded in 1935 by Sir Edwin Stevens, Amplivox has become a world-leading supplier of audiological and occupational health solutions to healthcare professionals around the world. As we celebrate 90 years of being in business, we want to reflect on what we’ve achieved so far and take a glimpse into what’s next for Amplivox.

Amplivox has been instrumental in developing first-to-market solutions and bringing innovation to the hearing health sector.

1935
Pioneered the early development of electronic hearing aids, designing the first wearable electronic hearing aid weighing in at just 10lbs / 4.5kg.

1940
At the request of the Ministry of Defence, Amplivox developed the first ever ear defenders to protect hearing from the noise levels arising in warfare.

1947
Designed the first audiometer for the differential test of hearing - described by the doyen of otologists as “the foundation of modern otology”.

1950
Developed the first communication headsets for fighting vehicles, supplying almost all NATO vehicles. We also designed and manufactured the first amplifiers with headsets to help educate deaf children at home and in the classroom.

1963
Introduced Audiocups to the market, which are still used by health professionals all over the world today.

Our customer needs are our priority, and we work with them to find effective solutions that help them enhance their capabilities. With early customers such as Sir Winston Churchill reporting to get ‘better results from our hearing aids than any others he’d tried’, through to healthcare professionals all over the world today choosing Amplivox to support them in delivering excellence in their practice – we’re proud to have spent many years leading the way in hearing health.

We constantly challenge ourselves to improve, looking for ways to innovate within our industry, and create the best possible instruments. High-quality, dependable and affordable, Amplivox products have always been designed with the customer at the centre.
